Best way to hide a hole from old thermostat wiring?
Switched to a smart thermostat and now have a 3×4 inch hole plus some wire remnants in the living room wall. Looking for a cover that doesn't scream "patch job" and can be painted to blend.

Old thermostat holes are small but right at eye level, so they bug you forever if not covered right. A rectangular flush cover works best—thicker plastic ones don't dent and accept multiple paint coats without peeling. I like models with a subtle frame that hides minor drywall imperfections around the edge. The one I used last has push-fit installation and a tight seal to keep dust out. Painted with the same flat wall color and a light texture roll it merged seamlessly. I applied a good-quality wall hole cover sized 8×10 and it covered the hole plus extra space around it nicely. Quick fix that looks pro.
